Lewis Hamilton, the AMG Mercedes F1 team and Daniel Ricciardo will go up against the best in the world of sport after being nominated for Laureus Sport Awards.

A year after Sebastian Vettel clinched the World Sportsman of the Year trophy, his successor to the F1 title Hamilton has been included amongst the nominations after clinching his second world title. He is up against stiff opposition, however, including Wimbledon tennis champion Novak Djokovic, new pole vault world record holder Renaud Lavillenie and Ballon d'Or world football player winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Englishman will also face renewed competition from Rory McIlroy - whom he beat to the British Sports Personality of the Year award in 2014 - and also MotoGP's two-time title winner Marc Marquez.

The Laureus Breakthrough of the Year award also features an F1 representative in Ricciardo, the Australian getting a nomination after out-performing Vettel in his first year at Red Bull en route to three wins and third overall. Last year's winner was Marc Marquez for clinching the MotoGP title in his rookie year.

He will be challenged for the award by US Open tennis winner Marin Cilic, World Cup clinching footballer Mario Gotze, Colombian footballer James Rodriguez, skier Mikaela Shiffrin and the Swiss David Cup team.

The winners of the Laureus Sports Awards will be announced in Shanghai on April 15th
