Daniel Ricciardo says day two of the Barcelona test was "definitely better" for Red Bull Racing and he was "encouraged" by his time at the wheel of the RB11.

Ricciardo finished proceedings at the top of the times - 0.010s up on Kimi Raikkonen - and despite a stop early on, completed 143 laps in total, the most of anyone runner and also the most laps Red Bull have done in a single day with its 2015 F1 car.

"It was better, definitely better," he told reporters, including Crash.net, when asked about his thoughts on the day. "We have been trying to get a day with 100+ laps and it was good we got 140 odd today, which was solid.

"Mileage is important but also we got through some pit stop practice and more or less race stint running and also some more performance like runs.

"[Overall] pretty good - it is just testing, but it is encouraging to see us on the top or in that front group of cars. Again you don't know what fuel or whatever they are running, but it is encouraging none-the-less."

Despite all that though, he said Red Bull still has quite a bit of work to do over the remaining six test days.

"Obviously we did a lot of running today, but I think we have still got quite a bit more to understand with the car and to get it further up," he added.

"In terms of performance we can still definitely improve a few things. It is encouraging though to be up there and have a bit more in the bag."

Ricciardo will now hand the car over to Daniil Kvyat for days three and four, so what are his plans now?

"I am going to the Maldives for a week... no, I am just kidding!" he joked. "I will go back home for a few days and do a bit of training and chill out a bit. Then I will come back here and get ready hopefully for another couple of days of 100+ laps."
