Lewis Hamilton leads the way on the first morning of F1 pre-season testing at the Circuit de Catalunya as Mercedes once again hinted at its ultimate pace.
Following Nico Rosberg's eye-catching lap time in the medium rubber earlier in the week, Hamilton emulated him early on in the day, turning in a best time of 1min 24.881secs on the tyres and completing a full 48 laps.
On a morning disrupted towards the end by inclement weather conditions, Felipe Massa moved up to second place just before the heavens opened, ahead of Daniil Kvyat, who recovered from an early stop at the pit exit to complete 45 laps in the Red Bull.
Romain Grosjean returned to action in the Lotus and is fifth, from Marcus Ericsson, Kimi Raikkonen and Carlos Sainz, the later debuting a new nose on the STR10 this morning.
As attention continues to swirl around McLaren-Honda and Fernando Alonso's accident on Sunday, matters on track weren't improving as Jenson Button spent much of the morning in the garage. Completing just 7 laps, it is another blow for the already embattled team.
