Romain Grosjean says the Lotus E23 Hybrid is a car which already suits him more than last year's ever did, after completing the first day of the final pre-season test in Barcelona.

The French driver notched up 75 laps on day one at the Circuit de Catalunya and feels the Mercedes-powered Lotus is a stronger package overall compared to 2014's efforts and feels confident heading towards the season-opener in Australia next month.

"This car suits me a lot more this year and every time I ask something different from it, it goes in the right direction," he said.

Reflecting on the day's testing, which was affected by light train around midday and was briefly red-flagged after Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz stopped on track in the afternoon, Grosjean was satisfied with the work completed and feels the team are in a much healthier position than 12 months ago.

"We feel every change we do, whether it is mechanical balance or if it is aerodynamic balance," Grosjean added. "Everything feels good compared to last year and we are very happy that things are going in the right direction."

After switching from Renault power to Mercedes Grosjean says his team has found an improvement in almost every area.

"It is frustrating for everyone when you do changes in the car and you don't feel it, which is what we had last year. But it makes you stronger and helps you develop some different skills. Now we have a better car we are trying to put everything together."
