Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher, has signed to drive in the ADAC Formula 4 series in Germany with Van Amersfoort Racing.

The 15-year-old Schumacher will step up from karting after the German finished runner-up to Brit Enaam Ahmed in both the CIK-FIA World and European championships. Schumacher received a maiden test in a French Formula 4 car in Valencia last December.

Schumacher will join Van Amsersfoort - who have recently helped Max Verstappen jump into Formula 1 with Toro Rosso - for the German F4 championship which commences at Oschersleben on 25-26 April.

Team boss Frits van Amersfoort has full confidence in the youngster after he proved his quality testing with the team.

"We have seen his skills in testing and we are looking forward to a successful season," he said. "In the last couple of years, it has become a tradition for us that we offer the runner-up from the German junior karting championship a test session in our simulator."

Mick Schumacher has joined the Dutch team despite his uncle Ralf having a big involvement with F4 rival team Mucke Motorsport.

Mick's father Michael Schumacher is currently recovering at home after leaving hospital in Lausanne in September 2014.
