Lewis Hamilton failed to set a lap time during the first free practice session for the Malaysian Grand Prix after suffering a 'power unit inlet system' failure.

The defending champion ground to a halt on his first flying lap after developing an issue, Hamilton failing to get back out on track for FP1 as his Mercedes mechanics pored over the car's engine.

Mercedes has now revealed that a problem with the power unit inlet system forced him to stop and it is working hard to get him out in time for FP2. Crucially, it does not affect his power unit allocation for the 2015 F1 season.
