Robeto Merhi says he is proud of Manor Marussia's efforts after he achieved the team's first Formula 1 finish of 2015, bringing his MR03 home in 15th place.

After rising from the ashes of the Marussia F1 team, Merhi's team has made remarkable progress after having zero pre-season testing and being unable to race at the season opener in Australia two weeks ago.

Despite ending the race three laps down on the leaders and in last place of the 15 finishers, the Spaniard hailed the performance as the reward for the team's mammoth efforts over the past few weeks.

"I'm so happy for the team. P15 is not only a great result from today's race, but also a huge reward for a fantastic effort over the past few months, I'm really proud of us," Merhi said.

"Coming into the weekend we knew things would not be easy; we had to work very hard and stay focused every step of the way. We missed out on some of our targets but in the end it was the race that mattered and we brought the car home with a full race distance."

Unfortunately for Manor Will Stevens wasn't able to add to the team's improvements, after he failed to even make the starting grid due to a fuel system problem which hampered his whole race weekend. Despite his team-mate's troubles, Merhi is confident the team can build on the work completed in Sepang ahead of the third round of the 2015 Formula 1 season in Shanghai in two weeks.

"[Full race distance] was my main objective, as the information we now have is so important for our development, but it's good to know that we got a good result along the way and finished ahead of some of the other teams."

Manor team principal John Booth echoed Merhi's sentiments and is delighted with the team's progress in such a short period of time.

"We couldn't be more thrilled to see the chequered flag today. We've had to overcome some massive hurdles, so everyone is pretty. This result is just reward for an incredible amount of hard work and determination from a fantastic team of people."
