F1 Bahrain Grand Prix: Red Bull "pretty decent" here - Ricciardo
Daniel Ricciardo says Red Bull Racing is "there or there abouts" of where it needs to be in Bahrain
Daniel Ricciardo thinks the Red Bull RB11 is looking “pretty decent” for the 2015 F1 Bahrain Grand Prix.
Ricciardo finished the opening day of practice on Friday sixth quickest overall on a 1m 35.449s, 0.169s off the Williams of Valtteri Bottas in P5 and 0.275s off the lead Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen in P3.
“It was alright,” Ricciardo told reporters at the end of the day. “I think, a bit like last year, we looked more competitive in the cooler conditions. To be honest the morning session didn't go too bad, but, yeah, P2 looked a bit better.
“I think low fuel pace we seemed to be there or there abouts, which is promising. High fuel, I haven't really had a look yet, probably a bit more happy on low fuel though to be honest. [Overall] I think the car is pretty decent. We are there or there abouts of where we need to be.”
Meanwhile, Ricciardo added that the teams can learn from FP1, even though it takes place in the middle of the day, while qualifying and the race both start at 6pm local time, the same as FP2.
“It is hard to take a lot away from the day sessions, but I think we more or less know... we have an off-set now,” he explained. “So we have a day set-up and a night set-up and I think if we get the car good in the day, we understand the changes that we need to make for the night to make it the equivalent.
“It is definitely different. Fortunately we seem to be a bit more competitive at night, so it is better for us.”
Looking to the race, Ricciardo predicted it will be a two-stopper: “It [tyre degradation] is quite high around here. I didn't run the prime, but the option, you definitely feel a bit there. I think it is probably a two-stop but I think the rears are really the tyres to watch out for - probably similar to Malaysia,” he explained.
So will they be able to get closer to the Williams' this weekend?
“I hope it will be closer, but they always seem to give a little bit more on Saturday. I think we will give a bit more tomorrow [too, though]. We will see.
“Hopefully it is close.”
