Daniel Ricciardo believes Red Bull Racing could be within "striking range" of Williams in the 2015 F1 Bahrain Grand Prix.

Ricciardo qualified seventh on Saturday, finishing the top-ten shootout just 0.088s off Felipe Massa. Valtteri Bottas was, however, 0.451s up on the Australian in fifth.

"I think it was pretty good today. I think the step we made in Q3 to find that extra half a second or so was good," Ricciardo noted. "My first run in Q3 was a really good lap. In a way I felt I had to probably try and reach for a bit more to get an improvement and I was up a little bit in the first sector [on my second run] and then coming into Turn 6, I was just hoping for a bit more grip. I was a bit optimistic and I lost my advantage through Turns 6 and 7 and then the lap was more or less the same.

"I think with Felipe being less than a tenth in front though, if I am really critical with myself that could have been possible. But in any case we put ourselves in a good position to at least be in striking range and I felt the session went well."

Pressed on if he can really fight with the Williams', Ricciardo replied: "I think it is going to take everything we have got, but if we use everything we have got then we can, but that is everything - that is strategy, start, tyre management. If we do a ten out of ten race from our side, which I feel we are yet to do this season and we are ready for it, then we can challenge them.

"It is realistic."

Meanwhile, Ricciardo added that the car does feel a lot better in Bahrain than it did in China last week, in part due to set-up and also just due to the fact it is a different track.

"It has obviously been a short turnaround since China and so we haven't had any big updates. We learnt a bit from China in the race though," he explained.

"We learnt a bit about set-up there and applied that for this weekend, some aero stuff here and there, finding out more optimum ride heights and things like this. We are understanding a bit more about the car now. But in general we seem to be pretty good around here [too]. Last year we were strong as well, probably it is the track that suits us."
