Pastor Maldonado is setting his sights on his first points of the 2015 Formula 1 World Championship season from eighth, describing the Lotus as faster than its grid position.
The Venezuelan is yet to get on the scoreboard in 2015 after a series of issues from point-scoring positions in other races, but has set himself up nicely in Monaco by reaching Q3 and qualifying ninth.
Set to start eighth after benefiting from Carlos Sainz's penalty, Maldonado admits the characteristics of the track will make it difficult to progress, even if he feels he has a fast car beneath him.
“Even if you want to attack it is going to be difficult to overtake,” he said. “We will see, if we are lucky to overtake a couple of places, but we need to follow the race.
“It is not a standard race where you can do different strategies or gain a place on the track, but we will do our best. Our pace is much better than the qualifying position.”
