Felipe Massa is confident he and Williams are in a good position to enjoy a competitive Canadian Grand Prix following an encouraging first day of free practice.

Despite a truncated day of running after the onset of rain in FP2, Massa was satisfied with the pace of the Williams-Mercedes, not least after the difficulties experience last time out in Monaco.

"I think it can be a better weekend for us," he said. "I think our car behaves better on this track so I think it was a good feeling straight away from the car, from the balance. Grip level is very, very low from the track, but it's for everybody anyway.
