Ferrari says it will target an aggressive race strategy to challenge Mercedes, with the aim of maximising the life of the Pirelli tyres at the Red Bull Ring.

Sebastian Vettel's race engineer Riccardo Adami explains the Maranello squad will use Friday practice to trial long runs on both the Soft and Supersoft Pirelli rubber, with the ultimate goal of racing longer stints in the race to put pressure on Mercedes.

"We can try to put one's competitors under pressure by means of strategy, making the most of the two compounds which means focusing on this aspect during long runs in Friday practice," Adami said.

Adami has also placed importance on the significance of qualifying strongly at the Austrian circuit if the Italian squad is to enjoy success in Spielberg.

"The Austrian track is very short and it's difficult to overtake here, therefore we will be aiming for maximum performance in qualifying," he said. "While Canada featured long straights with heavy braking points and in effect no fast corners, here the first two sectors do require some hard braking, whereas the final one has some very fast corners, taken at around 180kph in fifth gear."

The Ferrari engineer confirms the team will bring updates to Austria for its SF15-T, aimed to develop the characteristics of the car, after adding aerodynamic improvements in Spain and using engine development tokens on its power unit in Canada.
