Lewis Hamilton wants to put on a show at the Austrian Grand Prix amid recent comments Formula 1 has turned dull.

The reigning F1 world champion heads to the Red Bull Ring off the back of a dominant lights-to-flag race victory in Canada to extend his lead in the drivers' standings to 17 points from his team-mate Nico Rosberg. The Mercedes driver says he enjoys racing in front of the Spielberg crowds and hopes to produce a thrilling spectacle.

"Whatever happens you can be sure the atmosphere will be incredible. Last year the grandstands were absolutely packed and the fans were just insane, so I'm looking forward to putting on a show for them," Hamilton said.

12 months ago the two time world champion had to battle back from a poor qualifying position to finish second behind Rosberg and says his only goal in Austria is to win.

"It's time to put things right at a circuit I had a tough introduction to last year," he explained. "Although I struggled in qualifying, starting down in ninth, it was actually a great race fighting back through the field.

"I think I was about fourth or fifth by the end of the first lap and then just kept chipping away to claw my way back to the podium, which was really good fun. Of course, I'll be working hard to have a clearer shot at the win on Sunday."
