As expected as part of the overhaul of F1 revealed in the build-up to the British Grand Prix, the FIA has clarified the restrictions that will be put in place from the Belgian Grand Prix at the end of August.

In a bid to limit how much outside influence can be exerted on race starts, and to put the onus back onto the drivers, the requirements of Article 20.1 of the F1 Sporting Regulations will be more strictly applied, via a series of restrictions imposed by the governing body.

According to a technical directive, seen by Crash.net and issued to the teams, clutch bite point and pit-to-car communications will all be controlled from Spa onwards, with 'any other message at these times ... considered a breach of Article 20.1 of the Sporting Regulations'.

As such, the clutch bite point may not be changed from the time the car leaves the garage for the first time after the pit-lane is open on the day of the race until the end of the start lockout period after the race has started. Furthermore, bite point finder activation by the driver will be inhibited by disabling any driver button or switch associated with that function, although it will still be permissible to use a manual bite point offset switch for use after the start lockout period.

Pit-to-driver communications will be limited during 'any reconnaissance or formation laps' in a bid to remove the practice of drivers being advised on start-line set-up changes following practice starts they make on the way to the grid. Certain safety and sporting information allowed, with the following messages still permitted under the new, more rigorous, policing:

* Indication of a critical problem with the car, e.g. puncture warning or damage;
* Indication of a problem with a competitor's car;
* Instruction to enter the pit lane in order to fix or retire the car;
* Marshalling information (yellow flag, red flag, race start aborted or other similar instructions or information from race control);
* Wet track, oil or debris in certain corners;
* Instructions to swap position with other drivers.
