Sergio Perez says he will be confirming his contract extension with Force India imminently following the announcement Nico Hulkenberg will remain in 2016.
Ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, Force India firmed one half of its driver line-up for the 2016 season with the announcement that Nico Hulkenberg will remain, but Perez says he is very close to following suit.
Forming what will be an unchanged driver line-up for a third straight season, Perez says he hopes to have the deal announced in the next couple of weeks.
“We are getting close to the point that things are announced,” he said. “I hope to announce my plans before the next race. My priority is to stay here. We are discussing a long-term deal [as] I know the plans of the team, so I am really happy to stay here.
Discussing the prospect of driving alongside Hulkenberg again, Perez says he is happy to be competing with the German once more.
“It's good news for the team, I think Nico is a great driver,” he said. “For me, I have a good couple of sponsors, so we are trying to make the announcement together”
Perez scored his best result of the season last time out in the Belgian Grand Prix, finishing fifth having started in fourth position. He is currently 11th in the standings, one point ahead of team-mate Hulkenberg.
