Five hundred mourners have gathered for the funeral of Justin Wilson on Thursday.

The former Formula 1 driver succumbed to his injuries after he was hit on the crash helmet by a piece of debris at the Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania. Wilson died on the 24th August aged 37.

Former Jaguar Racing F1 team-mate Mark Webber and retired IndyCar driver Dario Franchitti were among the pallbearers at St James the Great Church in Paulerspury, Northamptonshire.

Julia Wilson, the wife of the Sheffield-born driver, read a poem she wrote called 'Today I washed you away' at the service. Jonathan Palmer, who played a prominent role in Wilson's development into Formula 1, performed a 12-minute eulogy.

A reception for mourners was later held at the nearby Silverstone circuit.
