F1 Singapore Grand Prix: I could have been fifth or sixth – Massa

Felipe Massa says he could have been a lot higher on grid for the Singapore Grand Prix and adds the pace of Ferrari and Red Bull was “amazing”
Felipe Massa says he could have been fifth or sixth on the grid for the Singapore Grand Prix, but for a mistake in the top-ten shootout.

Massa will line-up ninth on the grid for Sunday's race at the Marina Bay Circuit - his quickest lap in Q3, a 1 minute 46.077 seconds, which left him 0.401s off team-mate Valtteri Bottas and 0.777s off Lewis Hamilton in fifth.

“I made a mistake on my Q3 lap and I am not happy because of that,” said the Brazilian. “I just tried too much.

“We just had one set of new tyres and I couldn't put the lap together. I was three tenths slower than my best lap in Q2. So it was really a terrible lap I did. I lost many positions because of that.

“I would say a few positions in the normal way, but even with the perfect lap... I was even improving on my last run on Q2 and was three tenths quicker than my best, so it could have even been possible to be fifth or sixth.

“That was my biggest problem in qualifying, but apart from that it is not really a fantastic track for us.”

Meanwhile, Massa added that while he feels Williams have made some progress on this type of circuit, he was taken aback by the speed of Ferrari and Red Bull.

“They are really amazing – it is a lot [the gap],” he continued. “If you see the rear they have in sector 2 and 3, they don't lose anything on the tyres.

“For us, it is a lot more sensitive. So, it was not easy to work with the tyres for us, to make it work in the proper way.

“It can be that Mercedes has a similar issue as well.”

Massa should change his name to Mr. Complaint. I used to like and fan of Massa but he was talking a lot of non-sense since he was dropped from Ferrari. Massa was complaining on everything and he will complain himself if there no one to complain for. His mentality has been changed a a bit after he got head injury. I want Massa to concentrate in race other than talking non sense to reporters. Massa was used to be good driver. HIs DWC championship was robbed by Lewis Hamilton with help by Tim Glock. I believe Massa deserved to win WDC but as second driver at Ferrari can't help his ambition.
