F1 Singapore Grand Prix: Rossi "disappointed" with first qualifying session

Alexander Rossi: “I didn't make the most of my second run [in qualifying]; we didn't improve enough....”
F1 debutant Alexander Rossi says he was disappointed not to finish ahead of team-mate Will Stevens in qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix.

Rossi finished up just over half a second slower than the Briton and said he just didn't do as well as he should have on his second run.

“I'm pretty comfortable with the car and the circuit, but my target was to qualify ahead of my new team-mate, so anything short of that is disappointing,” said Rossi, who missed vital track time on Friday after crashing at the end of FP1.

“I was quick all morning [in FP3], and in my first qualifying run, but I didn't make the most of my second run; we didn't improve enough.

“As for tomorrow, it's going to be a tough race but I've waited a long time for this moment and I'm very excited to get started.”

Quizzed on his objective for his first race, the young American added that his main priority again - just like it was in qualifying - will be to try and beat Stevens.

"I definitely want to finish ahead of Will because that is my benchmark,” Rossi continued.

"Also we have seen in the past that there is a lot that happens around here in two hours. If we can try and capitalise on anything that comes our way it will be good for both myself and the team."
