Haas to announce second driver in Mexico

Gene Haas says an announcement confirming its second driver for Haas F1 in 2016 will be made in Mexico next week.
Haas F1 is set to confirm which driver will partner Romain Grosjean for its first season in Formula 1 next week ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix.

The US-based team has been steadily gearing up for its maiden season of F1 racing in 2016 by developing its car through a technical partnership with Ferrari and last month confirming the signing of Grosjean.

Though Haas itself hasn't given much away about its choice of driver, former Sauber driver and Ferrari reserve Esteban Gutierrez is considered the likely candidate, a prediction given added credence by owner Gene Haas revealing to Sky that the announcement will be made ahead of F1's return to his home nation of Mexico.

Next week's Mexico Grand Prix marks the first F1 event in the country since 1992. It will once more be held at the updated Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Interesting that the announcement has been delayed so long... I'd have thought that the #2 driver would have been announced 1st, then leave us all waiting on edge to see who gets the top job. EG was mooted quite early-on, so I wonder why he wasn't confirmed sooner, whereas Grosjean's inclusion was announced relatively soon after it became apparent that he was getting impatient about the yes/no Renault takeover scenario and was more of a surprise as such. Could we still be looking at a surprise contender? Have Haas changed their mind about Rossi maybe? He did ok in Austin.. will Chilton get the nod?
