F1 Mexican Grand Prix: Stevens 'pushing hard' for 2016 Manor race seat

Will Stevens has assessed his full rookie F1 season as a positive one and says things are moving in the right direction to stay with Manor in 2016.
Will Stevens says he is 'pushing hard' to hold on to his Manor F1 race seat for 2016 and believes his pace is not an issue thanks to his performances with the team this season.

The British driver's future still remains unresolved with both Manor drivers for 2016 yet to be confirmed by the team, with Chief Executive Officer Graeme Lowdon estimating the drivers won't be announced until the end of the season.

Manor has recently signed a partnership deal with Mercedes and will run the German manufacturer's power unit next season, which has strengthened rumours Mercedes is aiming to carve out a race seat for its reserve driver and new DTM champion Pascal Wehrlein.

Stevens, along with Alexander Rossi and Roberto Merhi, are all still in contention for a drive next year and the British driver believes his successful 2015 campaign will be a huge boost to his chances.

“If I was to assess the year as a whole, I think it's been really positive and for my options for next year, obviously we are pushing hard and everything is moving in the right direction,” Stevens said in the F1 drivers' press conference ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix.

“I think the year has been really good for me. My pace has always been really strong this year. I've only been out-qualified by team-mate four times this year so pace has never really been an issue. The last few races haven't really gone our way. A few things have happened that have made it a little bit more difficult.”

Stevens' best result of the season came at his home round Silverstone where he claimed 13th place and has only suffered two retirements all season, excluding the first two races of the year which Manor didn't participate in.
