F1 Brazilian Grand Prix: Fully fit Hamilton brushes off eventful week

Lewis Hamilton says he has moved on from his disrupted build up to the Brazilian Grand Prix as he seeks a first F1 win in Sao Paulo.
Lewis Hamilton insists he is fighting fit for the Brazilian Grand Prix despite a disrupted build up to the event following illness and a minor road car accident.

The newly crowned champion arrived in Sao Paulo later than planned after doctors advised him against flying due to a fever, before compounding his woes with a collision whilst driving his Pagani Zonda car in Monaco.

Declining to comment further on the accident beyond what he has already revealed on social media, Hamilton nonetheless insists he is back to full strength as he looks to break his duck by winning in Brazil for the first time this weekend.

“I feel good. I'm on the up, so a lot closer to 100 per cent,” he confirmed.

The only circuit on the calendar he has failed to win at in eight previous attempts, Hamilton is confident he can complete the set for Mercedes this weekend.

“It's a very tricky circuit and the weather is always up and down here, and even when the weather is good the track is so hot that it's hard on tyres and hard on the car. It was the highest track on the calendar [before Mexico returned], so it's a massive challenge overall for the driver and the car over the weekend. This is my ninth year, so who knows how long it's going to go, but I'm going to try this weekend to make the difference.”

Dear TeamLH, just wanted to let you know why things have been quiet on social media the past few days. I've not been well with a fever but I also had a road accident in Monaco on Monday night. Whilst ultimately, it is nobody's business, there are people knowing my position that will try to take advantage of the situation and make a quick buck. NO problem. Nobody was hurt, which is the most important thing. But the car was obviously damaged and I made very light contact with a stationary vehicle. Talking with the team and my doctor, we decided together that it was best for me to rest at home and leave a day later. But i am feeling better and am currently boarding the plane to Brazil. However, I am informing you because I feel we all must take responsibility for our actions. Mistakes happen to us all but what's important is that we learn from them and grow. Can't wait for the weekend Brazil🙌🏾 Bless Lewis

As someone who cares deeply about your well being Lulu I have to ask why you were driving (badly) around Monaco at 3.30am when you were suffering from a fever that was so serious a doctor advised you not to fly just a day or so after? You should have been tucked up in bed with some chicken soup my little friend.
