Hamilton certain Rosberg rivalry not hurting Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton believes his rivalry with Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg isn't having a negative effect on the team heading into 2016
Lewis Hamilton believes his rivalry with Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg isn't having a negative effect and has the team's interest at heart ahead of the resumption of their battle for supremacy in Formula 1 next season.

The three-time F1 world champion has reacted to Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff's comments that if the intra-team feud continues and impacts on its performances then he could be forced to change the driver line-up.

At Mercedes 'Stars and Cars' event in Stuttgart, Wolff echoed these sentiments with both Hamilton and Rosberg present and the drivers felt the competition was healthy and only a positive for the team.

"It is healthy for the sport and we have a great energy within the team,” Hamilton said. “I don't believe there is anything negative. It is natural in any environment, you want to make sure the atmosphere remains strong and we are a winning team.

“We will always communicate as we always have, and we will always rectify when we have any issues.”

Rosberg echoed Hamilton's comments while thanking his team boss for managing the pair's relationship which has become extremely tense and fraught over the past two seasons.

Both drivers have been vocal in their confrontation in 2015, sparked from the championship-defining clash at the Belgian Grand Prix in 2014, with Rosberg accusing of Hamilton driving too aggressively at times while Hamilton feels the car has favoured his German team-mate since changes were made at Singapore in September.

Hamilton was able to wrap up his third F1 world title with three races to spare at the United States Grand Prix after Rosberg surrendered the race lead with a mistake in the closing stages.

Since that error, the German driver has wrestled an advantage back thanks to three straight wins alongside six straight pole positions to end the season with all the momentum heading into the winter break.
