Vettel: I wasn’t expecting such a strong season

Sebastian Vettel: I think the results of this season have shown that we are on the right path, so now we just have to focus on ourselves [to improve in 2016]...
Four-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel has admitted he didn't expect his debut season with Ferrari to be so strong.

Vettel finished the 2015 season third in the Formula 1 Drivers' Championship, with 278 points, returning to winning ways with victories in Malaysia, Hungary and Singapore after a winless final campaign with his former team Red Bull Racing in 2014.

Reflecting on the year at Ferrari's Christmas get-together, Vettel said: “I would say the final result of the team [was most surprising]. I wasn't expecting such a strong season with Ferrari this year.”

Asked what the team can do to improve in 2016, Vettel added: “Well, we want to be competitive next year against Mercedes, but I won't go into details and tell our secrets!”

“The fact is that we have to improve in a lot of areas, aero, engine etc.,” he continued, “but I think the results of this season have shown that we are on the right path, so now we just have to focus on ourselves.”

Meanwhile, Vettel reiterated how he is looking forward to Christmas and not travelling: “The winter break is short, and being in hotels most of the time I will just enjoy some time at home, where I can relax, and spend time with my family and friends.”

Phranc: Good man you will be champion once again, and a great worthy champion that the sport can be proud of. Very best wishes for a fantastic 2016, bring it on.
Wish I could share your optimism but in reality its very likely Mercedes will dominate F1 for the foreseeable like Audi (VAG Group) has dominated Le Mans in the last decade and half, so unless you're in a Merc seat there's no chance of winning the championship. Unless you're Shamilton lovers of course who believes winning the championship for Mercedes is actually down to Lulu's skills... lol
