Haas F1 has struck the first major technical issue of its all-important pre-season testing programme, with a fuel system issue forcing it to curtail its running two hours before the chequered flag.

With Esteban Gutierrez behind the wheel, the new American team began the day brightly by completing 23 laps, but had been in the garage long before the teams broke for lunch.

This extended into the afternoon until 3pm when Haas confirmed a fuel system issue on the Ferrari-powered VF-16 would force it to bring its day to an end early.
