Defending Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton says he feels ready for the opening round of the season after completing a productive race simulation on the first day of the second F1 test at the Circuit de Catalunya.

With Mercedes alternating between its drivers morning to afternoon to counteract the extraordinary mileage it is clocking up over the four hour sessions, Hamilton stepped into the W07 later in the day.

With team-mate Nico Rosberg giving a glimpse of the W07's pace with his run on soft tyres in the morning, Hamilton will be made to wait for his run on the better rubber as he instead focused on long simulations.

Completing 90 laps without issue, Hamilton - who drives the car in the morning tomorrow - says he feels like he could comfortably head to the Australian Grand Prix without any qualms.

"It was a great afternoon of running with great mileage," he said. "We did a race simulation and after that I feel I'm ready for race one. The car is feeling great and was consistent all day. It's been a monumental effort from this team to get the car to where it is today. I'm truly grateful to everyone for every bit of work they have put in so far. "

Over the five days, Mercedes has now notched up a mammoth 847 laps - Toro Rosso runs it closest in terms of mileage with 634 laps.
