Daniel Ricciardo says Red Bull is in a much stronger position heading into the 2016 season than it ever had been last year as he completes a pre-season campaign without any reliability worries and a solid foundation to attack from in Melbourne.
The Australian driver has ended his winter testing in the RB12 having logged 456 laps with a best time of 1m 23.525s. After ticking everything off of his F1 pre-season checklist Ricciardo is thrilled with the progress from the TAG-Heue-branded power unit which has filled him with confidence for the 2016 opener in two weeks time.
“It has been pretty good but I'm glad the next time I'll be in the car it will be race time,” Ricciardo said. “I think I got over 100 laps in three of my four days in the car, so that's a lot better than in the last couple of years.
“We're in a lot better position than in the last two seasons. I'd give our pre-season a 7 or 8 out of ten, which is not too bad. We've made improvements in the Power Unit, there's more to come, but so far we're heading in the right direction, which is a positive start. And I hope to have an update by Monaco or Montreal.”
