F1 Bahrain GP: Kerb vibrations prompted Haas wing break

Guenther Steiner says Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez won't be told to stay off the kerbs in Bahrain after a front-wing break in FP2.
Haas team principal Guenther Steiner says he doesn't expect Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez will be told to stay off the kerbs ahead of qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix, despite one of its cars suffering a broken front-wing

Grosjean was coming around turn 12 in the closing stages of the second free practice session when the front-wing dissipated on the left side over the exit kerb, forcing him to slide off at the next corner.

Despite the alarming problem, Steiner insists the issue was simply with the vibrations and he doesn't expect the drivers to have to be more careful over the kerbs as a result.

“It wasn't a failure, we had a problem and something broke when we went over the kerbs and it touched the kerb with the vibration so we are working on it now to fix it. It doesn't seem to be a big problem to be fixed but again it is the first time we go over these kerbs and get these vibrations so we are learning but it doesn't concern us. We need to fix it but we know what we need to do.”

“I think you can tell the drivers [to be careful], they will not do it anyway. They try to go fast you know, they don't really worry about your front wing. We need to try to make sure that we do the best we can to sort it out, because we need to sort it out for the future.”

Steiner also sought to play down the suggestion it was the same issue that afflicted Haas in pre-season testing, when a front-wing failure was blamed on a problem with the way it was held together.

“Absolutely nothing to do with that one, it was the complete vibrations which did it here. It just shook too much and then it touched the ground, but nothing to do with the failure because that one – touch wood it's fixed.”
