F1 British GP: Pirelli gives hard tyre second outing at British GP

Pirelli has selected the hard compound tyres for the second time this season along with the mediums and softs.

The orange-banded hard construction tyre will make their season debut in the Spanish Grand Prix next weekend but with teams maximising strategy and durability on the softer compounds this year, the hards are only likely to be used at the extremely abrasive circuits.

Therefore, Silverstone – which is considered one of the toughest tracks on the F1 calendar on tyres – will host the second outing for the hard compounds alongside mediums and softs.

Pirelli has made the hards and mediums mandatory to have both sets available to use during the race with all drivers forced to use at least one of them during the British Grand Prix. Each driver must also save one set of yellow-banded soft tyres for Q3 qualifying, with those not progressing forced to hand the extra set back to Pirelli.

The teams are free to choose the remaining 10 sets, making up 13 sets in total for the weekend.
