F1 Monaco GP: Haryanto casts doubt on finishing F1 season

Rio Haryanto says he is focused on the job in hand but admits he is unsure whether he will be seeing out the 2016 F1 season with Manor.
Rio Haryanto has admitted 'funds are an issue' for him if he wants to see out his rookie F1 season with Manor Racing, but says the matter is being handled behind the scenes.

The GP2 race winner became the first Indonesian to secure an F1 deal as part of an all-new driver line-up for the overhauled Manor Racing team alongside Mercedes junior Pascal Wehrlein.

A deal made possible with assistance from the Indonesian government and state-backed oil company Pertamina, Haryanto has also been looking to raise funds via a text message 'crowd-fund' campaign, but says he is unsure whether it will be enough to secure him to the end of the year.

“I have no answer for that right now," he told the official F1.com website when asked if he will see out the season. "I will give my best and of course the funds are an issue,” he told the official F1 website. “This is handled by my management so that I can fully concentrate on racing. Actually the question with the funds is not within my hands - I just want to deliver on track to make me a good candidate. No question, I would like to stay and finish the season here.”

Despite this, Haryanto feels he has made a solid impression compared with the highly-rated team-mate Wehrlein and is keen to continue on this trajectory.

“We work very well together. Yes he is fast - and that pushes me. Outside the car we always share ideas, as we both want the best for the team. He is a cool team mate. He is a future Mercedes driver, and when I am not far off his time - wow - that's always fantastic for me. That is a good reference for me - not being slower than him.”
