Hamilton: The glass is 20 per cent full…

Lewis Hamilton is retaining a relaxed approach to his title challenge despite a faltering start to the 2016 F1 season.
Lewis Hamilton remains certain he has plenty of opportunities ahead to reel in Nico Rosberg at the top of the Formula 1 World Championship standings, despite his faltering start to the 2016 season.

After five races, Hamilton is yet to stand atop the podium and comes into the Monaco Grand Prix third overall, 43 points adrift of Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg.

In the wake of his dramatic coming together with the German at the start of the Spanish Grand Prix, Hamilton is nonetheless continuing to adopt a relaxed approach to his championship charge.

“If it happens, it happens and if it doesn't … who knows. There will be many opportunities in the future. But the opportunity is still there this year -- there are still 16 races -- and I have to remain positive. I look at that as the glass, rather than being half full, being 20% full and still the rest of the glass to fill up.”

Looking ahead to the Monaco Grand Prix itself, Hamilton – who was denied victory in 2015 after being caught out by an erroneous strategy during a late safety car – says his focus will be primarily on qualifying.

“Unfortunately it is likely to be exactly the same as before. There is no real great decisions being made that are going to make this race any better. The last two or three years have been one-stop races, which is the most boring, so everyone here knows pole position is [key] and it's going to lead to a one-stop race that leads to a procession.

“I was messaging a friend the other day and he said he was not coming to Monaco because it's a train. I said 'Yeah, I'm going to be in it, hopefully at the front of the train'. But I was just thinking last night how cool the track looked at night and I thought: why don't we have two races here?"

Taipan: Didn't he claim that his glass was half full before the Spanish GP? 30% is a lot to lose in one race, maybe his glass has a leak, man.
Quite a lot must have been spilled during the collision.....
