Nico Rosberg says his victory in the European Grand Prix was special, as he was completely at one with his car and felt he could push "all the way" without risk of an error.

Rosberg dominated the inaugural Formula One race at the Baku City Circuit, leading from start-to-flag, and finishing 16.6 seconds up on Sebastian Vettel in second, despite also having a similar engine setting issue as team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

"No, it's never lonely," Rosberg said after the race. "It's always tough to win a Formula One race. But today was special out there because I felt at one with my car and that doesn't happen often that everything is just perfect and I can push all the way and there's no risk of making an error or even a lockup or things like that, so it was a great feeling and that's what made it best actually."

"Everything went really well, from the beginning to the end, and even in the race it was special for me out there in the car," he added.

"The car would do whatever I wanted [as I said] and the thing would just stick to the ground and there was no risk of making a mistake."

After difficult races in Monaco and Canada, in which Hamilton slashed his 43-point lead to just 9 points, Rosberg also conceded that his fifth victory of the year was well needed.

"Yeah [it the win was needed], it's been an amazing day really, an amazing weekend. Thank you all here in Baku for welcoming us in this way, it's been spectacular, great track you've made, really exciting racing and of course for me the weekend went perfectly - very, very happy. Qualifying, race, everything went to plan so it was really awesome. No concerns [in the race], [just] flat out!"

Rosberg now re-assets his position in the Drivers' Championship and with Hamilton only finishing fifth in Sunday's race will head to Austria with his lead up to 24 points.

Asked if he is back with a vengeance in the title race, he replied: "To be honest today I'm just enjoying this win because that's what I came here for.

"I wanted to win Baku and it's worked out, so - ecstatic. I'm ready to go down to see everybody..."

Pressed on why he was not answering, he added: "I'm not answering the question. I'm avoiding it! I'm going to go down and see everybody, and big celebrations.

"It's an awesome result.."
