F1 Austrian Grand Prix: Ricciardo hoping to turn form around

Daniel Ricciardo is expecting this year's Red Bull RB12 to produce better results for the F1 team at its 'home' grand prix.
Daniel Ricciardo heads to next weekend's Austrian Grand Prix hoping that the latest Red Bull F1 machine will give him a shot at a better result than in either of his two previous visits.

Despite the Red Bull Ring being the Milton Keynes-based team's 'natural' home, it has yet to better eighth place in the Austrian Grand Prix - a result achieved by Ricciardo in the 2014 event. Last season, where the RB11 was hampered by its disappointing Renault power unit, yielded just tenth and twelfth places for the Australian and team-mate Daniil Kvyat respectively, but Ricciardo is confident that the more potent RB12 can provide more success for both himself and new partner Max Verstappen.

“Spielberg always has a pretty awesome atmosphere, and the setting is pretty amazing – the Austrian backdrop and the countryside is quite beautiful - but we haven't had the results we would like there in the past," he acknowledged, "The circuit is quite short, but it's also fun. I would love a few more corners, but it is a fun track for what it is, quite flowing and fast, and I think we're coming there with our best package yet so, hopefully, that can put us up into the top five."

No sooner will Ricciardo and Red Bull have dealt with Austria, however, than it will be on to Silverstone and the British Grand Prix the following weekend. With Canada and Azerbaijan having already run back-to-back this season, the summer - and July alone with four races in five weeks - is set to be a busy time for the F1 circus, but Ricciardo isn't fazed by the schedule and is anticipating another solid weekend in the Northamptonshire countryside.

“I love back-to-back weekends," he insisted, "It's awesome to keep the ball rolling - if there was a three week break it would eat at me.

“I really love Silverstone too. It has always been a track I've loved since my early days driving there. I love street circuits, but equally I love high-speed corners and fast circuits and Silverstone has got some of the best on the calendar in Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel. They're fun and they require a lot of commitment. If you've got a good car behind you, feel every bit of its force and potential....”
