Formula E added to F1 super licence points table

The FIA has released an updated F1 super licence points table with Formula E and V8 Supercars joining the list.
The FIA has released an updated F1 super licence points table with Formula E and V8 Supercars joining the list.

After the F1 super licence application was updated last year with an all-new points table, while the minimum age to receive a super licence was set at 18, the FIA has reviewed the table to include the all-electric series as well as the Australian touring car championship.

The addition of both series means the championships can be seen as a viable path towards F1, with Formula E – which is set for its second season finale in London this weekend – considered on equal terms as European Formula 3, World Endurance Championship and IndyCar.

V8 Supercar's addition sees it added just below WTCC, DTM and Indy Lights.

In order to be considered eligible for an F1 super licence drivers must acquire a minimum of 40 points in the three years before applying with a maximum of two championships entered per year.

As a result, a driver without a super licence could effectively win the Formula E championship, which rewards 40 points, and automatically meet the points target.

A potential winner of V8 Supercars would accumulate 13 super licence points over one season. The potential F2 championship being has been given the highest ranking with a driver finishing inside the top three championship places earning the required minimum of 40 points, placing itself ahead of the GP2 Series.
