F1 Austrian Grand Prix: Raikkonen unmoved by 2017 Ferrari speculation

Kimi Raikkonen insists he is paying no attention to the rumourmill despite his Ferrari seat potentially being under threat.
Kimi Raikkonen says he remains focused on the job in hand despite increasing rumours linking other drivers to his Ferrari seat for the 2017 F1 season.

Having originally penned a two year deal to return to Ferrari in 2014, Raikkonen saw his contract extended to the end of 2016 despite an indifferent campaign measured against incoming team-mate Sebastian Vettel.

However, though Raikkonen is enjoying an upturn in fortunes this season by comparison, he is again no closer to determining whether he will remain with Ferrari, or indeed F1, particularly in the wake of rumours linking Sergio Perez for a possible swoop.

Regardless, Raikkonen was remaining typically taciturn about the talks, saying he is in no rush to determine his future.

“I have a contract for this year and I don't know what will happen next year. There's always a lot of talk every year, since I got to Formula One it's the same story, it's nothing new and people talk a lot all the time. But people can say whatever they want, they have very, very little understanding of what's really going on.

“If I was making all the decisions it would be very easy to know what I would do, but I don't. We try to do our best and for sure the team knows my side of the story and that's enough for me. I have no interest in talking about it here or anywhere else, apart from with the team.”

After scoring two podiums in the previous three races, Force India F1 driver Perez admits he is flattered by the Ferrari talk but is not actively chasing it.

“As a racing driver it makes you feel proud, especially how my career has been in the past years, to finally realise that I am back there again. Although they are only rumours, I know that I am doing a good job, I know that I am performing well and working well with the team and that's good for anyone in any job, when you know that you are performing and growing, it makes you feel proud for what you have done for your work.”
