Sebastian Vettel has been handed a five-place grid penalty for the Austrian Grand Prix following a gearbox change.

Scrutineering in the wake of the European Grand Prix revealed Vettel had picked up debris in his gearbox, forcing Ferrari to make a change ahead of schedule for reliability reasons.

The gearbox change would prevent Ferrari from giving its revised 'halo' a second track run during free practice at the Red Bull Ring. The first time the controversial cockpit protection device has been seen since its first reveal in March, the latest prototype features a titanium structure and modified dimensions.
