F1 British GP: Mazepin to drive Force India at Silverstone test

17 year-old Nikita Mazepin will drive for Force India in the two-day post-British Grand Prix test at Silverstone.
Nikita Mazepin will make his Formula 1 debut at the upcoming Silverstone test with a two-day stint behind the wheel of the Force India VJM09.

The 17 year-old was announced as a Force India development driver earlier this year alongside his commitments in the European Formula 3 Championship, but the post-British Grand Prix test will be his first opportunity to sample F1 machinery.

Getting the chance to drive the VJM09 on both days of the Silverstone test, Mazepin is looking forward to the 'biggest moment' of his career.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to test the VJM09 at Silverstone. There's no doubt it will be the biggest moment of my career and it's something I've been working towards my whole life. It's been a few months since I joined the team and I feel ready for this opportunity. I know it's an important test for the team and they will be counting on me to do a good job, so I will work hard to make sure we achieve our objectives.”

“In just a few months since his announcement as a development driver, Nikita has shown a great level of technical understanding to go with his driving skills,” added team principal Vijay Mallya. “His progress in our simulator has been excellent and to be in the car during this test is the next step in his natural progression within the team. We are looking forward to working with him in Silverstone.”

Mazepin, who races with the HitechGP team, has scored just one top ten finish in European F3 this year.
