President of Renault Sport Jerome Stoll has confirmed Frederic Vasseur has been re-assigned to the role of Renault F1 team principal and will now be responsible for the outfit's results.

Vasseur, who has spearheaded ASM/ART Grand Prix to immense success in F3, GP3 and GP2, was named Renault racing director when he was appointed at the beginning of the year following the French firm's reacquisition of the former Lotus team.

However, in a minor shuffle behind the scenes, he will now become team principal, which Stoll says makes him directly responsible for the team's results and meeting targets.

"Frederic Vasseur gains the title Team Principal of the Formula One team and will be responsible for the performance and results of the team," he told "He will share his time between a long and demanding F1 season, at all races managing the track operations of Renault Sport F1 Team, and the day to day management of the activities in Viry-Chatillon where both Formula One engine and customer racing activities are based."

Vasseur takes on the role amidst pressure over Renault's disappointing return to F1 competition, the manufacturer having managed just a single top ten finish in the opening nine rounds, while it locked out the back row during the recent European Grand Prix. Nevertheless, Vasseur says this new 'day-to-day' role changes little for him.

"Personally, it doesn't affect how I approach the work at hand, however I have been given the title of Team Principal of Renault Sport Formula One Team to clarify and strengthen my role. It simply means that I am the one responsible for the performance and results of the team.

"I continue attending all races in this role and I will have a greater role in the day to day management of the activities in Viry-Chatillon to ensure everything that side of the equation is working as it should."

Cyril Abiteboul will continue as Renault Sport Managing Director.
