F1 US GP: Pirelli confirm US Grand Prix compound options

Pirelli has selected the super-soft, soft and medium compound tyres for this year's US Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.
Pirelli has selected the super-soft, soft and medium compound tyres for this year's US Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.

After last year's race was hampered by heavy rain all weekend, which saw a truncated qualifying pushed back to Sunday morning, Pirelli's slick tyres were used sparingly at the Texas circuit leading to a relatively smaller bank of tyre data.

Despite this, Pirelli has not opted for a conservative tyre selection and will bring the red-banded super-soft along with the yellow soft and white medium tyres for the US race.

As expected an extra set of super-softs will be given to the top ten qualifiers for Q3 and all drivers must use at least one set of the softs or mediums during the Grand Prix of United States.

Each team and driver will now make its selection of the 10 remaining sets with a minimum one set of each compound given by Pirelli.

The US Grand Prix is set to host the 18th round of the 2016 F1 championship at Circuit of the Americas on the 21-23 October.
