F1 Hungarian GP: Lewis Hamilton crashes out of FP2

Lewis Hamilton escapes unhurt after crashing in second free practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton has been forced to sit out the majority of the second free practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix after suffering a sizeable crash at the Hungaroring.

The defending champion got out of shape on the entry to the fast Turn 11 right-hander, the Mercedes sliding across the tarmac run-off area and firmly striking the barrier squarely on the W07's left-side.

Despite the impact, Hamilton was able to get the car going and nurse it back to the pit lane, but Mercedes has since confirmed he won't make it back on track for the remainder of the session as it assesses potential damage.

Hamilton would also make a trip to the medical centre but was quickly discharged again.

The session was red flagged for a short time to allow marshals to re-position that tyre barrier.

“Obviously not the greatest session for me," he said. "My apologies to the crew for all the hard work they have ahead to strip the car and get it back together. Fortunately, I got a good feel from it in the few laps that I did have and the pace is clearly there, so hopefully tomorrow I can make up for the time lost today during the morning session and come back strongly in qualifying.”
