F1 Hungarian GP: More points lifts Sainz into overall top ten

An eighth points' finish of the 2016 Formula 1 season in Hungary sees Carlos Sainz enter the overall top ten for Toro Rosso.
Carlos Sainz has re-established himself inside the top ten of the 2016 Formula 1 World Championship standings after notching up another points' scoring finish in the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Though unable to make his third row start in sixth place ultimately count as he lost positions to Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso, Sainz enjoyed an otherwise trouble free afternoon in the Toro Rosso en route to eighth.

Indeed, it was a result that ultimately exceeded expectations after such a difficult start to the weekend on an unfavourable circuit.

“With the dirty side and the McLaren starting so well, but then on pace, to hold on to the pace of a McLaren and be quicker than a Williams and of course a Force India after struggling a lot on Friday we certainly cannot really believe it after where we were in FP3.

“Also it's not like the temperature helped us today, it was really warm and still the car was performing when it's really warm. So I'm really pleased and a very solid weekend from my side and from the team.”

His eighth top ten finish in 11 races, the Spaniard ascends to tenth in the overall standings, only eight points shy of Williams' Felipe Massa.

“Finally we are talking about that consistency that I needed and the team needed. A lot of eighth places, just Baku where we were not in the points, we DNF, but from then on it's been an amazing run I would say. Really solid performances both from the team and my side and I must be really, really pleased with that.”
