F1 Italian GP: ‘Just not quick enough’ – Rosberg on big gap to Hamilton

Nico Rosberg: I think the best explanation is he did some good laps and that is it - because I had a decent weekend up to now and got some good laps in today. But just not quick enough
Nico Rosberg admits the reason he was so far off team-mate and pole sitter Lewis Hamilton during qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix was because he was not quick enough and not due to any problem.

Rosberg was comprehensively beaten in qualifying, slower than Hamilton in all three parts, and in the top-ten shootout while he did two mid-1m 21.6s laps, his team-mate finished off with a 1m 21.135s effort – almost half a second up.

Asked if he had any problems and if he could explain the deficit, Rosberg replied: "No problem, no. The problem was that I think he had his best qualifying in a long time."

“I think the best explanation is he did some good laps and that is it - because I had a decent weekend up to now and got some good laps in today. But just not quick enough,” added the German.

Meanwhile, looking to the race, Rosberg rejected suggestions he would be looking to do well to make up for last year's DNF when his car cried enough with just two laps remaining.

"No, that's not in my mind. What's in my mind is just tomorrow's race. Starting from second [on the grid] is a great opportunity.

"It would be awesome for me to have a great result here in Italy, because it's a special place for and I feel a little bit Italian myself in many ways, so it's great to race here and I would love to have a great result."
