F1 Italian GP: Tough losing when you dominate all weekend – Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton laments the 'tenth of a second' that scuppered what many expected to be a dominant Italian Grand Prix performance.
Lewis Hamilton admits it is tough to leave Monza having dropped points to Nico Rosberg in the 2016 Formula 1 title fight after a poor start dashed his hopes of a victory challenge in the Italian Grand Prix.

Having dominated qualifying, the Mercedes driver looked in control coming as he sought a third straight win at Monza, only for wheelspin at the start to demote him to fifth place initially.

Though he would work his way back up to second position well adrift of Rosberg, Hamilton was frustrated to have lost out on victory for the sake of a critical 'tenth of a second' right at the start.

“It is what it is. For sure, it is not like a Christmas day when you are super happy of course. All my guys work so hard. We've been smashing the weekends being quickest and dominant all weekend and when you don't win, it was like a tenth of a second that decided the race, it is tough for everyone.

POINTS: F1 Drivers' World Championship Standings

“When you look back at where you come from it is not that bad as we are still leading the world championship. We've had so many things go against us on our side of the garage this year and still to have come back and be where we are is phenomenal. There are still lots of great things that can happen moving forward.”

Rosberg's win sees him close the gap to Hamilton to just two points with seven races remaining. The next round is the Singapore Grand Prix.
