F1 Singapore GP: ‘No stress’ as Ocon sets up his F1 future

Esteban Ocon says he isn't stressed about his F1 future as talk grows that he will be racing with Renault for 2017 season.
Esteban Ocon says he is not dedicating too much of his time to worrying about his F1 future, insisting much of the pressure went away as soon as he got his F1 debut with Manor.

The highly-rated Frenchman was being touted for a move into F1 for 2017, most likely with the Renault factory team, but was given an earlier-than-expected debut when he was promoted to a Manor Racing race seat from the Belgian Grand Prix with Mercedes' influence.

With Ocon measuring well against his team-mate Pascal Wehrlein in Belgium and Italy, though it remains unclear where the reigning GP3 champion will race in 2017, he is satisfied that both Renault and Mercedes will ensure his interests are looked after.

“It's really good, they gave me a lot of opportunities to drive the car and develop as a driver,” he said. “Both teams have always helped me. Renault first, then Mercedes. They help me to take steps, I have to thank them a lot for that. At the moment, I need to focus on this. I don't want to think about the future yet.

“I'm not stressed [about my future],” he continued. “The pressure went away from my shoulders when I came here. the other challenge is to stay in F1 and prove you are a good driver but I think the biggest step is to come in. It hasn't been easy. But the pressure went away when I came in, I feel very relaxed and that's a good thing.”

Prior to his Manor debut, Ocon had completed a handful of FP1 outings with Renault in 2016, as well as make his debut in Mercedes colours during the post-British Grand Prix test at Silverstone.
