RESULTS: Japanese Grand Prix – Free practice results (2)
Jenson Button has asked McLaren-Honda to look into whether his car has any issues after finding his long run pace during free practice was not up to his usual standards.
Ahead of what could be his final Japanese Grand Prix, the British driver endured a tricky day in the MP4-31, ending up 16th and well behind eighth place team-mate Fernando Alonso.
OPINION: Does Lewis Hamilton deserve his Snapchat backlash?
He was also surprised to find his long run pace to be down on what he was expecting to the point that he believes there could be a fundamental problem with the car.
“The long runs are a big issue that we need to solve. Normally that's my forte, but today it wasn't, we're a long way off. We're looking into the reasons, to see if there was something wrong with the car or not.
Fernando had some slightly different bits on his car but even so we should have been more competitive in the long runs and not way off. I think there are some things we need to look into. I think there's something wrong rather than a set-up issue, so we have to get that right for tomorrow.”
