Pascal Wehrlein has been hit with a grid penalty for the Japanese Grand Prix after his Manor team was forced to change his gearbox overnight.

The British team broke its curfew as it investigated issues with Wehrlein's MRT05, eventually changing the gearbox to necessitate at least a five-place grid penalty that will be confirmed in due course.

Wehrlein, who was 21st fastest in third free practice, became only the second driver to score a top ten finish in a Manor after finishing tenth in the Austrian Grand Prix.
