RESULTS: Mexican Grand Prix - Qualifying results

Romain Grosjean has described his 21st place starting position for the Mexican Grand Prix as 'unacceptable' as he endured another tough qualifying session in the inconsistent Haas.

The Frenchman enjoyed a trouble-free first practice session just 1.5 seconds off the pace in 11th position, only for his weekend to take a massive change in direction when he dropped to 20th position and behind the two Saubers in FP2.

Once it came to qualifying, Grosjean was underprepared and wasn't able to register a clean lap which saw him fall half a second off team-mate Esteban Gutierrez's pace in 17th. Though a spin for his team-mate in front of him would force him to scupper his final lap, Grosjean says he couldn't have gone any quicker.

"I really don't know what's happening. The car was good in FP1 and it was alright on the first run this morning in FP3, but after that it's just gone nowhere. We really need to try to analyze what's going on as something is clearly not going right. Last on the grid is unacceptable for us.

BREAKING POINT: These F1 races really push drivers and cars to the limit

As the setup of the car remained the issue for Grosjean, the troublesome brakes again played their part as he struggled his way around the Aut?dromo Hermanos Rodr?guez to qualify last on track.

"Let's say that yesterday I was very happy with my brakes and today has been a disaster. So from one day to the next, they just don't behave the same way, so yeah, I'm looking forward to try something different.

"Yesterday Esteban wasn't happy with his brakes, today he was happier, I was happy yesterday and wasn't happy today. We've made exactly the same productivity on both cars, so I honestly don't know. Evidence is that things are not happening the way they should."

Haas has confirmed it will trial Carbone Industrie brakes at the Brazilian Grand Prix, though it will only have parts available for use on one of its cars. It is yet to decide which driver will run them.
