RESULTS: Brazilian Grand Prix - Qualifying results

Romain Grosjean says he is confident Haas can score good points in the Brazilian Grand Prix after surprising himself by qualifying seventh at Interlagos.

In a year that has seen Haas suffer indifferent qualifying performances, the Frenchman sneaked into Q3 before impressing on his one and only fast lap during the final session to qualify seventh.

Putting Haas ahead of Force India, Williams and McLaren, Grosjean - using the Carbon Industrie brakes this weekend in a change from Brembo - was impressed with the upturn in pace compared with free practice.

"Pretty much [unexpected]. We did the plan for qualifying. I knew from this morning that my lap was not so good in FP3 so I looked at Palmer's time, he was eighth or ninth, he was only three tenths from me and I thought 'that's quite easy to get'.

"Somehow I knew we had some potential but on the other hand you look at all the competitiveness throughout the weekend, we've been 14th, 15th so it wasn't clear where to go. The first run in Q1 felt really good, the second one felt really bad, so I was a bit worried. In Q2 we got a bit better and in Q3 again we managed to understand a bit more.

"Today it was cooler, it was better for us. There's just a lot of study to be done on background because the truth of one day is not the one from the next day."

Matching Grosjean's best starting position of the season from Suzuka, the Frenchman is confident he won't miss out on points this time if he gets the start right.

"Japan we were fast we just had a poor start but then we were pretty fast. We were much faster than the Williams in Japan so yes the Force India was faster in the race but a lot faster when I was in free-air before I caught the Williams so we'll see tomorrow.

"If they beat us, fine we are still P9. As long as we are in the top 10, I mean it's exceptional for us to be P7 on the grid, it's not normally where we expect to be, so if we are in the top 10 in the race then fine and if anything happens up front then you can always take advantage."
