Brown already searching for new McLaren title sponsor

While keen to learn and familiarise himself with McLaren, one of Zak Brown's top priorities is landing the team a title sponsor in F1 as he prepares to join the Woking-based squad.

On Monday, Brown was officially confirmed as McLaren's new Executive Director in the wake of Ron Dennis' exit last week. The 45-year-old American formally starts work for the British company in December and has visited the Woking headquarters to meet McLaren staff.

Brown – who was reportedly being touted for a senior role with new F1 owners Liberty Media – will play an integral part in replacing Dennis and will work jointly with Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Neale to lead the company.

Speaking on McLaren's website, Brown has outlined the challenges he sees ahead for both McLaren and Formula One and while hoping to work with new owners Liberty Media to help attract more fans back to the sport he is keen for McLaren to land a new title sponsor.

“I would like McLaren – just as we always have – to lead the way and continue to do that with a real emphasis on the commercial side,” Brown said. “It's not passed me by that we need a title partner, not only to help continue to build our brand, but also to economically make us go faster.”

“I think it's critical that we as McLaren and of course the entire industry really focus on our fan base – I've talked about that a lot over the years. If you have a big healthy fan base, everything else falls into place – the sponsors, the television, the merchandise and, ultimately, the economics that make the sport work.”

McLaren has competed without a title sponsor since the end of the 2013 season after Vodafone opted not to renew its deal with the British team.
