Lewis Hamilton says he will focus solely on ending his 2016 Formula 1 World Championship season with another win to his name regardless of whether it sees him notch up a fourth world title.

The 2008, 2014 and 2015 champion will start the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from his 12th pole position of the season knowing his title rival and Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg needs only a third place finish behind him for him to secure his maiden F1 title.

With the result of the championship now largely out of his control, Hamilton says he can only lead from the front and focus purely on the job he needs to go, much like his team-mate.

"I think Nico is really trying to focus on approaching it the same as he has approached every single race, which is telling of his thought process. For me, I've not been thinking about the championship. Obviously I know what I've got to do, but I've been solely focusing on trying to do my best every time I have been in a car.

"Somehow I've really managed to get a really good click and managed to back to that good spot that I've been in after all the engine issues. In terms of the race tomorrow, I'm just going to drive my heart out as I do every single race."

What it would take for Lewis Hamilton to win the 2016 F1 title

- Hamilton wins the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and Rosberg finishes 4th or lower

- Hamilton finishes second and Rosberg finishes 7th or lower

- Hamilton finishes 3rd and Rosberg finishes 9th or lower

- Hamilton finishes anywhere inside the top 3 and Rosberg fails to score
