The world of motorsport has reacted to F1 world champion Nico Rosberg's decision to retire at the top, with Max Verstappen joking he's already been approached to replace him by Toto Wolff.

Stars from F1 and across motorsport were rocked by the news of Rosberg's sudden decision to retire from the sport with many paying tribute to the German's success at becoming F1 world champion and emulating his father Keke Rosberg 34 years on.

His shocking announcement also opens the door to a potential F1 world title contending race seat alongside Lewis Hamlilton for 2017 with Dutch starlet Verstappen quick to quip Wolff has already been in contact having found out on Wednesday.
